Mission

The Department of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside provides high-quality business education and management expertise and continuously advances business knowledge through research and consulting services. These educational and business services are delivered in multiple ways, including the provision of:

  • A quality undergraduate business program that develops and advances the professional, technical, and business expertise of its students; prepares students to begin their careers; and provides a foundation for life-long learning.

  • A quality MBA program that enhances students' knowledge of critical business issues and current management techniques; and prepares these students for advanced management positions and entrepreneurial ventures.

  • Highly qualified faculty who are active researchers and contribute to expansion of knowledge in a wide array of business disciplines. Their professional and scholarly contributions enhance teaching in the classroom as well as the operations of regional businesses and organizations.

  • Dedicated faculty who provide management expertise, and work in partnership with many businesses, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, and other educational institutions in the region.
  • Core Values

  • The Department of Business seeks to enhance the lives of its students by providing a quality business education. This education serves as a foundation for future learning; enhances understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, promotes ethical decision making, motivates intellectual curiosity, and provides the skills that help our students become productive members of the global economy.

  • The Department of Business, like the University, is a place of opportunity for the development of knowledge and skills critical for the increasingly complex, competitive global arena.

  • Relevant, on-going scholarship is a vital role of the business faculty. Scholarship is the means by which faculty members advance knowledge in a wide range of business disciplines, and continuously maintain their management expertise.

  • Multiple types of scholarship are valuable, including the scholarship of basic research (i.e., discovery), the scholarship of integration (i.e., combining ideas from multiple fields), the scholarship of application (i.e., applying knowledge to business practice), and the scholarship of teaching (i.e., improving pedagogical approaches).

  • The department strives to be a key player in local and regional economic development.

  • Partnerships with the local community enrich teaching, research and service. Teaching is enhanced by providing students with experiences that manifest theoretical knowledge gleaned from the classroom. Service is enhanced by bringing together multiple skills and resources of faculty, students, and local practitioners. Research is enhanced by providing new and practical problems and/or places to test and implement innovative ideas.

  • The department values sharing information among all faculty members and shared governance form of decision-making.

  • The department believes in continuous improvement of our individual courses and curriculum.

  • The department seeks to foster an environment of mutual respect for diverse ideas, cultures, and life styles.
