What About Me? The Impact of Alzheimer's/Dementia on Children & Teens
Date & Time: 11/7/2009 from 9:00 - 11:30 AM
Location: Molinaro Hall, Room D105, UW-Parkside, Wood Road, Kenosha
Cost: This program is free and open to the public because of a generous grant from the Palmer Foundation. Continuing Education Units will be available. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served.
Description: The Alzheimer's Association presents this program to show how alzheimer's disease/dementia profoundly changes the life and relationships of the person with the diagnosis. It also impacts the person's entire family, and brings special challenges for children and teens. As time and energy of adults are stretched thin in caring for their loved one with dementia, children are often dealing with their own emotions and challenges which can leave them feeling "What about me?" During the program the speaker will focus on helping to identify the emotions and reactions that a child may face and give strategies to help the child understand and cope with the disease. The presenter will use examples, statements, and suggestions based on interviews with children and teens to help illustrate ways to cope and manage the dementia.

Women In Technology
(Enrichment opportunity for 7th grade girls.)
Friday, November 13th, 2009
Time: The conference check-in will be from 7:45-8:15 am, in the Molinaro Atrium. The conference will end at 2:00 pm.
Location: UW-Parkside
Fee: $15.00
Description: Each year UW-Parkside's K12 Education Outreach and License Reneal Office bring seventh grade girls to campus to interact with women employed in technology-related careers, as well as allow them to experience technology laboratories with faculty and staff at the university. We are planning presentations in the areas of Biotechnology, Computer Science, Engineering, Graphic Arts and Software Development.
As the conference capacity is 50 participants, we have limited the enrollment from each school to four seventh grade girls. We hope that the teacher or another adult will consider attending the conference as well. A separate program for the adults has been created which not only “mirrors” the girls’ lab experience, but also discusses ways to support them in their academic success.
When you have collected all the forms (a school registration form, a parent letter and a participant permission slip) please mail them back to us with payment to CCP-UW-Parkside; 900 Wood Rd, P.O. Box 2000; Kenosha, WI 53141. All registrations forms must be received by Friday, October 15, 2009. Once we receive this information we will send confirmation letters to the homes of the selected participants and also a confirmation letter to the school contact.
