Margaret Gename serves as the Director for the K-12 Education Outreach Department in the Center for Community Partnerships here at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The K-12 Education Outreach department’s mission is to foster a teaching and learning community that provides opportunities for collaborative interaction between Southeastern Wisconsin educators, UW-P faculty and UW-P students. To fulfill its mission K-12 Education Outreach; provides high-quality professional development programs and services responsive to the diverse population of educators in Southeastern Wisconsin, align programming with the Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and License Renewal and engages area educators in their community through training in Service Learning and Civic Engagement.

Margaret joined the staff at the Center for Community Partnerships seven years ago. Prior to joining the CCP, Margaret served as the Youth Programs Director and Science Fellows Coordinator through the Regional Staff Development Center here at UW-Parkside for three years and an LTE for the Continuing Education Department through the University of Wisconsin-Extension Unit for two years. Margaret graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Bachelors of Science and Education, with a major in Communicative Disorders. For three years Margaret was employed through the Kenosha Unified School District as a Speech and Language Therapist. Her great interest and concern in youth development and professional development for educators brought her to the university.

Margaret is a member of UW-Parkside’ Science Education for the New Civic Engagement Responsibility (SENCER), and an active member of the Teacher Preparation Steering Committee (TPSC), along with serving on the Southeastern Wisconsin Service Learning Consortium (SEWSLC) and the Southeastern Wisconsin Educator Support Services Board and a board member of Chiwaukee Academy. Serving on the boards, committees and groups listed above bring focus and attention to the need of providing opportunities for life-long learning, standards-based, pedagogical instruction, skill-building and classroom implementation activity to Southeastern Wisconsin educators.
