Workshop builds stronger nonprofits Sept. 22

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside holds its 4th annual Nonprofit Board Development Conference Tuesday, Sept. 22. Titled "Growing the Strengths of Nonprofit Organizations," the conference is for current and future board members and executive directors of nonprofits. The workshop runs from 3-8:30 p.m. in the UW-Parkside Student Center, 900 Wood Rd., Kenosha.

Keynote speaker is Bliss Browne, president of Imagine Chicago. Known worldwide for her innovative work in civic engagement, systemic change, collaboration, and community and organizational development, Browne advocates a strengths-based approach to the work of nonprofits. A graduate of Yale, Harvard, and Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, Browne consults with businesses, churches, healthcare, government, and community organizations.

Each of the workshop's 12 breakout sessions addresses organizational governance and development from a strengths-based approach. Topics include fundraising, technology, fund development planning, roles and responsibilities of board and executive directors, and effectively working with consultants. The workshop features an "expo" with vendors whose products or work cater to nonprofit organizations.

"Growing the Strengths of Nonprofit Organizations" is part of the UW-Parkside Center for Community Partnerships' ongoing effort to develop a pool of talented people to strengthen nonprofits through more effective governance and leadership.

Cost of the workshop is $45 in advance, $50 at the door, and includes materials and dinner. A special $25 rate is available for leadership program participants, seniors, and UW-Parkside faculty, staff, and students. Scholarships are available for CAN program participants.

Registration closes Thursday, Sept. 17. Register online at www.uwp.edu keyword: nonprofit development. For more information, call Felicia Stallworth at 262-595-2312 or access felicia.stallworth@uwp.edu by email.
